My Approach to Therapy

I love my job and I love helping others. With that being said, it stands to reason that I give my clients my all, and you should expect nothing less than that from your therapist. I am a seasoned professional who is truly passionate about providing empathetic and compassionate therapy for people struggling with a variety of issues such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, communication struggles, & more. 

 

I specialize in processing and moving beyond trauma and believe that the root to many of our struggles can be found in past relationships and attachments. I am a psychodynamic therapist who also utilizes systems theories and relational framework as a foundation for clients to explore and connect how relationships and environment impact larger goals and sense of self. I want to help them understand themselves better and utilize their past as a keystone strength on which to move forward. Understanding one’s self is the root of empowerment. 

 

I pride myself on developing strong, lasting and trustworthy relationships with clients in order for them to have the best possible outcome with treatment goals. Did you know that the collaborative relationship you have with your therapist is the biggest predictor of success in therapy? This is why it is the number one most important thing to me. It is my goal to provide a safe, respectful, nurturing, and collaborative environment to support my clients in their journey, whatever it may be. Once we understand how our patterns and difficulties developed, we have the knowledge and ability to change them. I believe we all have the power to connect with our past, overcome it and thrive from it.

About Me

Angela Reyer Gillespie, MA, LPC, TCP, received her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology with concentrations in Trauma and Addictions from Rosemont College, and received her certification in Trauma Therapy from Lakeside Global Institute. She also successfully completed and graduated from a 3-year Family Based Training program through The Philadelphia Child & Family Therapy Training Center. Angela has worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families in various therapeutic environments including private practice, wraparound behavior modification, extended assessment, family based, partial hospitalization programs, and medication assisted treatment programs. 

Angela has experience working with a wide array of diagnoses including ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), ADHD (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), anxiety, depression, PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), anger management, behavioral modification, attachment issues, and a range of personality disorders, as well as environmental and social factors which have great impact on people’s lives.

 

Currently, Angela is working with children, adolescents, couples and families to discover themselves and utilize their strengths to apply that knowledge to make positive life altering changes.

 

Areas of specialty include trauma, sexual abuse, anxiety, depression, co-parenting, relationship issues, and life transitions. 

 

Outside of work, Angela enjoys reading, running, hiking, yoga, spending time with her family, including her husband, three children, and her 6 rescue dogs.
