My Approach to Therapy

Working with LGBT clients, Adult adhd, depression and anxiety, intergenerational patterns, couples and family work.

My approach to therapy.

I am a couples and family therapist, and view my clients through a systemic, intergenerational lens. None of us exist in a vacuum, so why should our mental health?

As such, I aim to understand each client from a holistic perspective- I believe each person, family and couple are capable individuals who have the potential to address their own challenges, but that sometimes our experiences, family history, or even our own minds can get in the way.

As a therapist, I see my role as one where, through creating a safe, compassionate environment, clients can learn to identify the narratives they see the world through and learn strategies they can use to impact their lives in a meaningful way. It’s my honor to support and bring out the resiliency and strength you already have so that you can achieve your goals.

About Me

Kayla earned her undergraduate degree in psychology at Penn State University before working as a home health aide for individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism. This experience showed her the impact that a person’s environment and family life can have on their mental well being, and inspired her to pursue further education at Drexel University, where she obtained a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. During this, her internships at the Caring Together program and Northeast Treatment Centers allowed her to work with several populations, including women in recovery from substance abuse, LGBT clients, couples work, families and many more.

Kayla has worked in a wide variety of settings, including outpatient and in home family-based therapy, and brings this experience into her sessions with clients. LGBT clients are a speciality of hers, as she feels that being part of the LGBT community herself lends her a unique perspective that allows her to better understand and support her client’s needs.

In her free time, Kayla enjoys painting, playing video games and spending time with her wife and two cats.
